A Beautiful Day to Start the New Year!

Iced over pond and cherry red branches offer winter colour.

It is a beautiful day here.  Clear and cold, no wind and a gorgeous blue sky!  We got our day off to a great start with a walk in our favorite city park, Neck Point.  I got to play with my new Zoom lens and took some pictures of eagles and posturing birds (one gull and a type of bird, maybe a type of heron).  I also took picures of the trees of the park.  The deciduous tree are all denuded of their leaves and look so very different at this time of the year.  If you like, join me for a walk in the park.

Faux fair-isle baby vest in progress.

I’m going to spend the rest of the day puttering around my knitting, hopefully finishing off the vest sample for the faux fair-isle class and getting deeper into the border of the “easy”

"Easy" Shawl Sample about 50% done.

 sample for the Retreat.

I received a totally unexpected gift yesterday.  It arrived in the  mail and was waiting for me when I got home from work.  It was a wonderful way to start the new year.  The friend who sent the yarn is also the one who sent me the link to the Vogue Magic of Mohair Competition – I should be showering her with gifts!  I’ll have to think up something particularly special as a thank-you!  The yarn she sent is a natually dyed fingering blend of 20% cashmere, 40% angora and 40% merino lambswool.  The yarn is made by Shilasdair and has been dyed with Cochineal and is a glorious red.  The picture does not do the colour justice and the hand is incredible!  I can hardly wait to work with the yarn and will have to knit something as spectacular as the yarn itself!  The Isle of Skye – where the yarn comes from – is also now another place I would like to visit!

Shilasdair - yarn from heaven (Skye actually)!

Thank-you Lynette for my wonderful gift!  (Yes we share the same first name!  We have never met except through Ravelry, and the wonderful accident of a shared name!)

Have a great New Year’s Day and Happy Knitting

Lynette
