Over the last week and a bit I have been working on three small projects for the Buffalo Wool Co. The first one – Grid Lines – I finished a few days ago.
Grid Lines is a hat with a pedigree. It is loosely based on the Voyageur caps of old. A little fuller and longer than a toque, usually hemmed and not ribbed at the start. An original Cap would have been finished with a tassel and the end would be left to hang or sometimes the end would be folded and tucked back into the ribbing itself.
I have been playing with the Voyageur style for another project that I have been working on and given the history that Buffalo Wool Co is attached to – a Voyageur Cap style seemed to be appropriate for them as well.
Grid Lines is a very modern take on the style. Clean lines and clear colours in the grid format. A neutral background – undyed Tracks with the bright and deep colours of the squares set off the shaping of the cap.
The colour grid makes it easy to gather up the cap into the buttons and leather strapping details! This is a cap that makes a great fashion statement.
Wear it Fall to Spring and keep warm and stylish! The pattern will be available starting July 15th.
Also just off of the needles and also constructed with Tracks Sock Yarn from the Buffalo Wool Co. is a pair of socks. Buffalo Falls Socks are constructed from the top-down and start from a picot hem.
The buttons on the Picot Hem are the smallest Buffalo Nickel buttons from the Buffalo Wool Co. They are not sewn on – they are placed with a small crochet hook as you knit – just like a bead. The socks then move to a combination of two by two ribbing down the back of the leg and a lace ribbing down the front of the leg extending onto the top of the foot to the toes. The toe has standard shaping and is finished with Kitchener Stitch.
The lace rib pattern is called the waterfall lace. In these socks the pattern is mirrored so that the “water” appears to fall to the center of the socks.
Now meet “The Wanderer’s” – not someone you want to find wandering around your neighbourhood, maybe a little too tough, a little too wild. But tied up to your toque they would be a little easier to handle. LOL!
It is a slightly slouchy toque, with the fair-isle patterning and finished with a jaunty pom-pom! Knit with Buffalo Wool Co Tracks sock yarn and a little of the undyed Sexy 4-ply! This hat is just the right weight to add a little extra warmth on a cool Fall day.
This pattern will be exclusive to the Buffalo Wool Co.
