Challenging Week

Rhiannon Shawl - center line detail in the back.

Rhiannon Shawl – center line detail in the back.

This has been an interesting week.  It had gone from panic to joy and back to panic again.  Busy doesn’t even begin to encompass the activity level!

Tassel detail - first one - may make some changes.

Most of the Angst was around the Rhiannon Project.

The yarn is so much better in person - the colours are deeper, richer, much more mysterious!

First; the yarn got lost in the Mail.  It was eventually found by my ex-postie husband, languishing in the post-office in the carded section – we never got the card and believe me we were watching for the parcel.  Second; Having become suspicious of all things parcel – I checked on the status of the beads!  They too were languishing – but not at the post office – OH NO – they were at Canada Customs – to have the contents reviewed!

Having a parcel checked by Canada Customs is not unusual – it happens quite often with the yarn that Mad About Ewe brings into Canada from the US.  That is the job of Canada Customs.  But as I found out, once the parcel is with Customs it can be held for up to 15 business days.  The young man on the phone was very polite and understanding as I explained my problem with the time issue and how I really needed those beads – I had a deadline!  But the answer was still the same – 15 days!  There was no way to expedite the process!

The Jazzy Shawl is finished - Colinton Mohair produces great results!

My shawl - the Rhiannon prototype - notice the back - no center line - the shawl swirls to the right - the front won't hang straight - not a problem for me as I can work around it - but not what I wanted for Rhiannon.

The Knitting Gods must have been feeling generous as the beads were released from Canada Customs that same afternoon and arrived the next morning.  Since Wednesday I have been knitting like crazy and I am pleased with the results.  Once the beads arrived my stress level dropped significantly – now I just have the Sept 22 deadline to contend with – deadlines I can handle!  LOL!

While waiting for everything – I finished up the Jazzy Shawl it is now blocked and on display at Mad About Ewe.  I also started a new shawl for myself – though it is sort of the prototype for Rhiannon.  I checked out the start and set up of the lace pattern.  I changed a few things for Rhiannon so the practice time was useful!

I hope that you had a great week!

I will be knitting most of the weekend – a great way to spend the Labour Day long weekend!

Happy Knitting

That deadline seems close…I get stressed out with Christmas deadline! I can’t wait to see the finished product. I’m a big fan of buffalo wool.

    • Hi Selena – the deadline is close – but I don’t have to have the project finished – just enough done so that my concept is understood. I could have just submitted a sketch – but I cannot draw to save my life – but knit I can do! knitting doesn’t translate well in a sketch – unless you are another knitter! Knitting with beads – even less so as the effect beads give to knitting has to be seen!
Like you I am very fond of Buffalo Wool. The fiber is amazing to work with! I hope that you like the finished piece!
